1. The tree Pyrus (formerly Sorbus) Aucuparia, characterized by its delicate pinnate leaves and masses of bright scarlet berries. In North America applied to the native species, Pyrus americana and P. sambucifolia. Also bastard mountain ash: see quot. 1812.
