[ad. eccl.L. Monophysīta, a. eccl.Gr. Μονοϕυσίτης, f. µόνο-ς mono- + ϕύσ-ις nature: see -ite1 1 a.]
A heretic who believes that there is only one nature in the person of Jesus Christ.
The bodies of Christians now professing this belief are the Coptic, Armenian, Abyssinian, and Jacobite churches.
