[a. OF. mendinant, pr. pple. of mendiner, mendienner to beg, f. mendien (fem. -enne), an altered form, due to confusion of suffix, of mendiant (see mendiant). Cf. mendivaunt: in 14th c. texts the two words cannot with certainty be distinguished.]
