1. A common book-name for aquatic or marsh plants of the family Halorageæ, esp. Hippuris vulgaris, formerly called Female Horsetail (see horsetail 2 b); often wrongly applied to the cryptogamous genus Equisetum (horsetail 2). Also attrib.
