A polypeptide secreted by the pituitary gland which promotes the removal of fat from adipose tissue and stimulates the production of melanin. Usu. with qualifying prefix or suffix to denote either the entire lipotropin molecule (β-lipotropin or β-LPH) or any of several fragments.
