A crystalline amino-acid, H2N·C6H4·COCH2CH(NH2)COOH, that results from the metabolism of tryptophan and is a precursor of kynurenic acid in man and various animals; β-ο-aminobenzoylalanine.
1931Chem. Abstr. XXV. 2444 When tryptophan is injected subcutaneously into rabbits whose metabolism has been lowered by a regime of polished rice, a product intermediate between tryptophan and kynurenic acid is excreted in the urine. The name kynurenine is proposed for this substance. 1938H. Gilman Orig. Chem.
