[mod.L. (A. P. de Candolle 1817, in Trans. Linn. Soc. XII. 154), f. the name of William Ker or Kerr (d. 1814), English botanical collector.]
A deciduous shrub of the monotypic genus so called, native to China and Japan, belonging to the family Rosaceæ, and bearing single or double yellow flowers; = corchorus 2; white kerria, a closely related shrub, Rhodotypos kerrioides, which bears white flowers.

So named after Mr. William Ker, a botanical collector, who was sent some years since to China, whence he sent many curious plants.
