The name of Heinrich Albert Johne (1839–1910), German veterinary surgeon, used in the possessive to designate Johne's bacillus, Mycobacterium johnei, first recognized by him in 1895, which causes Johne's disease, an infectious enteritis of cattle and sheep, characterized by diarrhœa and progressive emaciation.
