Of, belonging to, or being the period between the composition of the last canonical book of the Hebrew Scriptures (c 165 b.c.) and the beginning of the establishment of the New Testament canon (in the mid-2nd cent. a.d.); spec. designating non-canonical Jewish literature composed or read in this period.
