[a. F. insectologie (Bonnet, 1744), f. L. insect-um insect + -ology.]
A term formerly used in same sense as entomology, the science of insects as a branch of Zoology; now usually applied to the study of insects in their economic relations to man, as producers of silk, honey, cochineal, etc., and as agricultural pests or benefactors.
