[a. Gr. ὑγείᾱ, late and non-Attic form of ὑγίεια health, Ὑγίεια the goddess of health, f. ὑγιής sound, healthy. From the same Gr. form were late L. Hygēa and Hygīa (cf. Darēus and Darīus = Gr. Δαρεῖος). The rare variant Hygiea represents Gr. ὑγίεια.]
