[ad. mod.L. hydrometria, f. Gr. ὑδρο- water + -µετρία measuring; cf. F. hydrométrie.]
The determination of specific gravity by means of the hydrometer; hence, that part of hydrostatics which deals with this.
In early use the term seems to have been co-extensive with ‘hydrodynamics’ (in the mod. sense).
