a. The ion H2N{b1}NH3+ derived from hydrazine (or a substituted ion derived from this in which univalent radicals replace one or more of the hydrogen atoms). Usu. attrib.
b. The less common ion H3N+{b1}NH3+ (or a substituted ion derived from this in which univalent radicals replace one or more of the hydrogen atoms). Usu. attrib.
The application of the terms hydrazinium and hydrazonium has been inconsistent. Some authors have favoured using one or other of them (with or without a distinguishing numeral) for both ions, whilst some prefer hydrazinium for N2H6++ and hydrazonium for N2H5+; others would abandon the names entirely. The International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry recommends hydrazinium(1+), hydrazinium(2+), respectively, for the two ions (Nomencl. Inorg. Chem. (ed. 2, 1971), Rule 3.17).
