[f. hydro- d + acid. Cf. F. hydracide, and hydro-acid.]
A term applied to an acid containing hydrogen, to distinguish it from an oxyacid, or oxacid, containing oxygen; now esp. to the halogen acids, or simple compounds of hydrogen with chlorine, bromine, iodine, fluorine, or cyanogen.
1826Henry Elem. Chem.
