Howship Anat.|ˈhaʊʃɪp| The name of John Howship (1781–1841), English surgeon, used in Howship's lacuna (earlier lacuna of Howship): one of the numerous microscopic depressions or pits, irregular in shape and usually containing osteoclasts, that are found on the surface of bones and bony tissue where resorption is occurring.
