The name of Harald Hirschsprung (1830–1916), Danish physician, used in the possessive in Hirschsprung's disease, congenital enlargement of the colon, occurring esp. in boys, spec. such enlargement due to the absence of the ganglion cells of a segment of the lower colon or rectum.
