[ad. It. Ghibellino, commonly stated to be a corruption of Ger. Waiblingen, the name of an estate belonging to the Hohenstaufen family; the Ger. name is said to have been used as a war-cry by the partisans of the Hohenstaufen emperor Conrad III at the battle of Weinsberg 1140.]
