[Arab. ghāzi, pr. pple. of ghazā to fight.]
A champion, esp. against infidels; also used as a title of honour. In modern use, chiefly applied to Muslim fanatics who have devoted themselves to the destruction of infidels. Hence ˈGhazism, the practice of the Ghazis.
