a. With capital initial. A genus of twining shrubs of the family Loganiaceæ.
b. The roots of a plant of this genus (G. sempervirens), or a preparation of them, used as a medicine; also called gelseminum. Hence ˈgelsemine (also gelˈseminine), gelˈsemic (acid): (see quots.).
