The names of F. J. E. Fischer (1877–1948), German chemist, and H. Tropsch (1889–1935), German chemist born in Czechoslovakia, used attrib. to denote a process introduced by them for the production of hydrocarbons by the catalytic hydrogenation of carbon monoxide.
