[‹ classical Latin dūrus hard + -ene suffix, after German Durol, in the same sense (P. Jannash & R. Fittig 1870, in Zeitschr. f. Chem. 6 161); so called because it is solid at ordinary temperatures.]
A crystalline hydrocarbon occurring naturally in coal tar and also made synthetically, used in the manufacture of polyimides and plastics.
Systematic name:1,2,4,5-tetramethylbenzene; C6H2(CH3)4.
