[ In several places drafty is a proved misprint or misreading for drasty, ‘of the nature of refuse, dreggy’, and possibly the whole word originated in such misreading, which it was subsequently attempted to explain by association with draff or with draught n. 45, 46: see draughty 3. Scott's use, quot. 1823, is app. after an ed. of Chaucer with drafty erroneously for drasty in Prol. to Melibeus.] Of the nature of refuse or garbage; rubbishy, worthless; filthy, vile.
