[mod. f. Gr. δι- di-² - twice + πλανητικ-ός disposed to wander, f. πλανητός wandering (see planet).]
Having two active periods separated by a period of rest: said of the zoospores of certain Fungi of the family Saprolegnieæ. So diˈplanetism, the condition or property of being diplanetic.
1888M. M. Hartog in Annals of Bot. 203 note, The ‘first form’ of zoospore..is ovoid with a pair of flagella from the front..The ‘second form’ is uniform with an anterior and posterior flagellum diverging from the hilum. The existence of these two forms constitutes the phenomenon of diplanetism.
