后面是“事情”时，表示“办理”、“处理”，有延续性，不一定就是“办好了”、“处理掉了”。

• I don't know how to deal with this problem.这个问题我不知道如何处理。
• They can deal with any kind of emergency.任何紧急情况他们都能应付。
• The Financial Officer deals with all the finances of the university.财务主任处理大学的全部财务。

后面是“人”时，deal with 表示“应付”、“打交道”或者有点对立意义的“对付”。

• I know how to deal with him.我知道如何对付他。
• I always have to deal with awkward customers.我老是要跟怪癖的顾客打交道。
• The judge dealt with her severely.法官整得她很凶。

deal with 的宾语不能是具体物件（而且 deal with 没有处理完成的意义），如果要表示把某物处理掉（又是瞬时动作），无论是削价出售或是对有害废料加以无害处理（瞬时动作），都是 dispose of。

• She disposed of her shares three weeks ago.她三周前把股票处理掉了。
• They had nuclear waste to dispose of.他们有核废料要处理掉。

如果是无害废料，简单扔掉就用及物动词 junk（也是瞬时动作）。

• junk all the old furniture把旧家具全处理掉。
