[OE. Dęnisc:—OTeut. *danisk-, whence ON. Danskr, f. Dani-, Dęne, Danes + -ish. Thence ME. Densh, etc. In Danish, the vowel is changed as in Dane. The ME. Danais was immed. from OF. daneis, danoys (:—L. Danēnsis); and the late Dansk directly from Danish.]
