A kind of velocipede, an early form of the bicycle, in which the rider sat on a bar between the two wheels, and propelled himself by pushing the ground with each foot alternately.
1819J. Hodgson in J. Raine Mem. (1857) I. 247 The little boys about London are all getting dandy-horses, for such seems at present the name of the Velocipede.1892Strand Mag. IV. 30 (Evolution of Cycle) Mr. Dennis Johnson..a coachmaker at 75 Long-acre took out a patent for this dandy or hobby-horse in 1818.
