[mod.L. (Linnæus Systema Naturæ (1735)), f. Gr. κύπρις Aphrodite + πέδιλον slipper, in reference to the inflated pouch formed by the labellum; cf. cypripedin.]
A member of the large genus of orchids so named. Cf. lady's slipper 1.
