A hydrocarbon, C9H12, found in Roman cumin oil: it is a colourless strongly refracting oil, allied to Benzene. So cumic |ˈkjuːmɪk| a., of or derived from cumin, as in cumic acid C10H12O2, cumic aldehyde, etc. ˈcumidine, a base homologous with toluidine, formed by the action of ammonium sulphide on nitrocumene. cuˈminic a., of or derived from cumene; = cumic. cumole = cumene. ˈcumyl, the acid organic radical, C10H11O, of Cumic acid, homologous with Benzoyl; hence ˈcumylamide, ˈcumylene, cuˈmylic, ˈcumylide, etc.
