Brit. |kɪˈantiʃ(ɪ)ə|, U.S. |kiˈɑn(t)iˌʃɪ(ə)r| [Humorously > n.) + shire n., as if representing the name of an English county.] The region of Tuscany in Italy, esp. the area surrounding the Chianti Mountains, perceived in terms of its popularity as a holiday destination for British tourists and as a home for British expatriates.
