1) 前面有 the，后面有 of...，指某具体或抽象事物的中心点。

• the center of a circle圆心
• the center of the room房间的中央
• the center of attention注意的中心。

表示静态位置时，前面的介词用 at。

• The Sun is at the center of the solar system.太阳位于太阳系的中心。

2) 前面有 the, a, this... 等限定词，还有其他前置或后置定语，表示场所、设施、中心地带。

• an amusement center娱乐场所
• a medical center医疗中心
• a center of trade贸易地带
• recycle center （超市内的）旧品回收处。

这里的“中心”，其实没有什么“中心点”的意思。

3) 前面总是有 the，没有其他定语，指政治上的“中间派”、“中间立场”。

• As he grew older, he also increasingly moved to the center. (Newsweek, Jan. 8, 2007, p.32)他（美国前总统福特）年纪越老，也就越是向中间立场移动。
• "If I'd been elected in 76," he told me flatly, "the party (= the Republican Party) wouldn't be as far right as it is at the present time... I sure hope it comes back to the center."(ibid.)他直言无忌地对我说：“我 76 年要是当选，党（共和党）本来不会像现在这样的右。…我的确希望它回到中间立场上来。”

“中间派人物”是 centrist。
