† ˈcarlin Obs. Also carline. [a. F. carlin, ad. It. carlino, f. Carlo Charles, the name of several rulers, esp. Carlo I, 1266.] ‘A small silver coin current in Naples and Sicily, equivalent to about four-pence English’ (Chambers Cycl. Supp.), or, in later times, twopence.
