blemya|ˈblɛmɪə| Usu. in pl. blemyae. [L. Blem(m)yae, f. Gr. βλέµυες, an Ethiopian people, ‘acc. to the fable (Mel. 8), without head and eyes, and with the mouth in the breast’ (Lewis and Short).] A type of mediæval carved image (see quot. 1915).
