A compound formed by heating urea. Also attrib., as biuret base, biuret test; biuret reaction, the reaction of biuret, proteins, and some other substances containing the {b1}CO · NH{b1} group with an alkaline solution of cupric sulphate, which gives a red or violet coloration.
