Belfast sink, n. Chiefly Brit. Brit. |ˌbɛlfɑːst ˈsɪŋk|, |ˌbɛlfast ˈsɪŋk|, U.S. |ˈbɛlˌfæst ˈsɪŋk| [‹ Belfast, the name of the capital city of Northern Ireland, where this type of sink was apparently first produced + sink n.1] A type of (usually large, rectangular) deep sink with vertical sides, traditionally made of glazed white fireclay and incorporating an overflow.
