A genus of orchids of the temperate northern hemisphere, now restricted to the single species A. bulbosa (dragon's mouth orchid), which is a rare bog plant of eastern North America with a magenta (or, rarely, white) flower; (also arethusa) an orchid of this genus, or formerly included in it.
Valid publication of the genus name: Linnaeus Species plantarum (1753) 950. Other species formerly placed in this genus are now classified in other genera including Pogonia and Eleorchis.
