[f. Gr. ἀπό apo- + σηµατ-, σῆµα sign (cf. sematic a.).]
Applied to colours, markings, or other attributes serving to warn or alarm, and thus to repel the attacks of enemies. So aposeme |ˈæpəʊsiːm|, an aposematic marking, etc.
