▪ I. † aniˈente, v. Obs. Also 4–6 anyente. [a. OFr. aniente-r to bring to nought (= Pr. and It. anient-ar), f. à to + nient, mod. néant nought (= It. niente):—late L. *neëntem or *necentem, f. ne, nec not + entem (nom. ens) being: see entity.] = anientise (which is the commoner form).
