alnico, n.|ˈælnɪkəʊ| [f. aluminium n. + nickel n. + cobalt n.] Any of several steel alloys which typically contain nickel and aluminium, with smaller amounts of cobalt and copper, and are used for permanent magnets. U.S. usage can be especially variable: see quot. 1969.
