[ad. G. Akinet (coined by N. Wille 1883, in Bot. Centralblatt XVI. 217), f. a- 14 + Gr. κινητ-ός movable.]
In certain algae, a thick-walled non-motile resting cell or spore, formed asexually by the differentiation, without division, of a vegetative cell.
