Of or pertaining to a family of languages found in northern Africa and western Asia, of which Arabic is the most widespread. See Hamito-Semitic a. and n. Also as n.

I rather hesitantly suggest the name Afroasiatic for this family as the only one found both in Africa and in Asia.
