Acetic glycerin; class name of a series of thick oily liquids, formed (by Berthelot) by the action of acetic acid upon glycerin; they consist of glycerin C₃H₅(OH)₃ in which one, two, or all the three hydrogen atoms are replaced by the radical acetyl C₂H₃O, the result being mono-, di-, or tri-acetin; the formula of the last is C₃H₅(OC₂H₃O)₃.
