Alstom is present in Kazakhstan with around 730 people, depot, repair center and two facilities, EKZ in Nur-Sultan for locomotives manufacturing and maintenance and production of on-board transformers, and KEP in Almaty for the production of point machines.

The first AZ8A locomotive became a part of the contract signed by EKZ with Azerbaijan Railways in 2014 for the supply of 50 locomotives, including 10 passenger locomotives Prima M4 AZ4A.

Alstom has completed a deal to double its stake in its Kazakhstan joint venture, EKZ. The French company now has a 50% stake in the JV, which was set up to manufacture electric locomotives for Kazakhstan, and will be given an extra seat on the EKZ board of directors.
